Our Story
Dilworth Church of God was founded in 1948 and has served the Dilworth community of Empire, Alabama for more than 75 years. We are part of the Church of God denomination, operating under its group 501(c)(3) tax exemption.
Pastor Nelson Kimberly, an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God, and his wife Marie have led the congregation for over 23 years. Together they have pastored and evangelized throughout Alabama for over 45 years, and have mentored ministry interns as Supervising Pastors for 35 years.
Our Mission
"The Dilworth Church is a family of believers committed to sharing the hope we have in Jesus Christ, encouraging one another in love, and helping people develop a closer relationship with God."
Serving Our Community
Since 2004, our congregation has operated the House of Refuge Food Bank, which has served over 180,000 clients throughout the Dilworth, Empire, and Sumiton area of Walker County. It's one expression of our belief that faith and action go hand in hand.
What We Believe
Scripture
We believe in the verbal inspiration of the Bible as the authoritative Word of God.
The Trinity
We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Salvation
We believe that justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
Holiness
We believe in sanctification subsequent to the new birth, and that holiness is God's standard of living for His people.
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the baptism of the Holy Ghost, with speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance being the initial evidence.
The Second Coming
We believe in the pre-millennial second coming of Jesus — to resurrect the righteous and reign on earth a thousand years.
